As an alternative, they sadly recourse to trial-and-error. A better option is collaborating with a ‘center of expertise’ that can quickly and efficiently, apply skilled people, efficient tools, and demonstrated technologies to meet industry challenges. WIDL is such ‘center of expertise’, strategically located in Windsor, ON, ready to promptly, methodically, and cost-effectively, assist manufactures and their suppliers and clients. Besides, production floors inherently generate 10 to 20% of scrap in terms of flash, runners, bad parts, test parts, etc. WIDL is positioned to regenerate post-industrial scrap and post-consumer products for repeat manufacturing (circular economy), going through material segregation, thermoset rubber devulcanization and compounding, thermoplastic blending, to return reclaimed materials to their generators, or use the new compounds and resins in contract manufacturing or to produce new products. 

WIDL selects, reverse-establishes, and inspects materials, for any manufacturing process, through destructive or NDT (non-destructive testing) techniques. The firm excels in obtaining material parameters from test data, which constitutes a major obstacle to valid product time-simulations.

“Design parameters” are neglected in product shaping and processing. For example, over-compression makes a gasket seal but promotes degradation. Design parameters at WIDL help part makers gauge processing and can go all the way to ensuring the functionality of produced products in time.

The only alternative to the costly “over-design” and time-consuming “trial-and-error” is simulation of part performance and processing. WIDL cost-effectively builds simulation knowledge for manufacturers, combining novelties in materials and computer-based predictive software.

WIDL validates part designs and processes by testing under various operating and manufacturing conditions. Still, WIDL invests extra efforts to generate data to correlate to simulations. Testing completes under normal conditions and with accelerations using time-temperature superposition.
